Massachusetts · Self-Determination

It fired the first shot for self-rule. Massachusetts nears a majority.

There is no organized movement for it in Massachusetts yet, and that is exactly what we are here to change.

The only question that matters

Massachusetts is already a nation in all but name.

If Massachusetts were already a self-governing nation, with its own border, its own money, its own defense, everything two hundred other nations control, and the vote in front of you was not whether to leave, but whether to join the United States on the terms it offers today, would you vote yes?

Massachusetts wrote the town meeting into American life. People here have run their own affairs, argued their own budgets, and settled their own business at the local level for four centuries. Governing yourself is not a foreign idea in this state. It is the oldest habit Massachusetts has. When the question is put fairly, about 44% of Massachusetts would vote to leave the union, close to 2.4 million adults.

That 44% is the honest number, not the 14% from the abstract poll. A real ballot is calm, binary, and peaceful. When people answer the question the way they would actually decide it, support runs about 30 points above the poll. That lift puts Massachusetts at or near a majority. Massachusetts leaned Democratic in 2020, which tells you self-determination is not a red thing or a blue thing. It is a question about who gets to decide.

What is missing in Massachusetts is not the numbers. What is missing is each other. We bring the playbook and the connections the largest independence movement in the country has already built. We do not run your group, and we do not take your money. You build what Massachusetts's movement looks like.
