After the first 90 days
The next 90, and how you know it's working.
The first 90 days were about proving something can exist. The next 90 are about proving it can exist without you. Days 91 through 180 have one shape. You grow from about ten people to about thirty. You show up in public a second time, then a third. And at some point, someone who is not you runs a meeting.
That last one matters most. The goal for month six is simple, and a little uncomfortable. You want to stop being the most important person in the room. A group that only works when the founder is present is not a group yet. It is an audience. You are building something that keeps its shape when you step back, because one day you will.
The milestones ladder
- First ten: the handful who said yes and keep showing up.
- First thirty: enough that new faces arrive without you inviting them by name.
- First public table: you sit somewhere open and let people find you.
- First outside recruit: a new person brings someone you have never met.
- First meeting you did not run: you sit in the back and it goes fine.
The one metric
One number still tells the truth: people who said yes and can actually be reached. Write it down once a month. Not likes, not sign-ins, not applause. Names you could call tomorrow. If that number climbs, you are working. If it flattens for two months, something in the machine needs attention.
Watch for the month four to six slump. The novelty is gone. The founder starts to wonder if any of it is landing. This is normal. It is the exact moment most efforts quietly stop, and it is also the moment the durable ones push through. When the first circle holds steady and a second town starts asking questions, that is your signal to help a second circle begin.
